This is not for our family. Buy with caution. And as always, read before you show your child.

Review by Deb, 2010-08-22

We purchased the first two books in this series and my children have enjoyed them. We read the books with them a few times and then they can read them on their own. The messages in books 1 & 2 are one of love and caring. The books are truly wonderful in that we can leave it with our son alone and know that the message of love will not being distorted. My 10 year old has had book 2 for months now and recently noticed the age range on the front of the book. This prompted him to ask for the next one. SO, I found a copy (which was no small task). I was horrified when I previewed the book. I will not be sharing this one with my child. I would like other potential buyers to know what they are buying.

The following are excerpts from the text that made my skin crawl.

AIDS:
The topic of AIDS is discussed like it was in 1985. In fact, AIDS is discussed throughout the book as a disease that 'bad' people get when they don't do what god wants them to do. Other sexually transmitted diseases are not discussed.

"People have so messed up this gift that sex now becomes the way that people infect each other with a disease that can kill them."

Homosexuals:
The following excerpts left me speechless.
"There are homosexuals who act as homosexuals and live the gay lifestyle."
"Some do it because they believe sex is only for pleasure, others because they need someone to love."
"Some do it because their lives are very empty and sex is the only joy or reason to live that they can find."
"There are Christian men and women who feel 'those' feelings and choose to obey God by not having sex at all."
"These people broke gods rules, and because they did, they made it more likely that they would get the HIV virus."

There are buckets of fear and ignorance woven throughout this text. Caveat emptor.
I will be finding another book for my son. It saddens me that no other reviews bring up these concerns.

I dislike the format and the information presented is WAY too much for my child, at least at the recomended ages. It would be a good refrence for parents to prepare for answering some of the questions themselves however.

Don't go just by the age range on the cover

Review by teta289, 2009-08-12

My husband and I read the book all the way through first, and we've decided to get the first two in the series before we share with our 8 year old. She's very intuitive, and has already been exposed to some inapproriate talk from school friends, but this book is a bit too much to start with. I did just start reading the American Girl, Care and Keeping of You, with her and she is excited about learning how her body is changing. We definitely want her to learn about sex from us, and with a God perspective, but we will definitely get the earlier books first.

meant alot to my 14 yr. old son

Review by Tammy Willis, 2009-02-24

Even though this book stated it was for a younger age group, I got it for my 14 yr. old. We had our first talk about sex when he was 9. When he started asking questions, I simply answered them the best I could. I have always wanted my kids to feel free to ask me anything. In reading this series of books I hope I have more of the answers they need and deserve to hear. My son enjoyed this book and stated that it has given him ideas of how to handle peer pressure. I have went ahead & ordered the remaining books. I have children in all the age catagories, so I hope to offer them a better understanding of God's gift with the use of these books. Just wish I had learned of them years ago!

Sex ed book review

Review by Quality review, 2008-12-27

Highly recommended for every parent and child. Personally I supplement with "Learning about sex - a series for the Christian family" also available for various age groups. It's better to have a couple of different versions on hand, one of them will speak to your teenager. I like the conservative approach, but the basics still remain the same (biology based). A parent's and teenager's help!
